That’s not to try and play down the miraculous nature of the event, but to try and understand why Jesus acted as he did, because a closer analysis of the text reveals that it wasn’t healing that Jesus offered initially. Jesus said to the paralysed man, "Son, your sins are forgiven;” (v. 5) not ‘You are healed, get up and walk.’.
